Have you ever wondered how much your small series of fun murders was deadly for the planet as a whole?

… No?

Too bad, it's time for your daily dose of existential terror. Mobile wins.co.UK has conducted a study recently, to see how much game consoles are really ecological. The statistics come from a simple source: the basic sales figures for each platform, combined with the average weekly use of the console (8.5 hours / week). From there, they took into account the testable carbon footprint of an individual console and increased things accordingly. Here's what they found:

The Xbox Series S / X arrives at number 5. The next step is the Nintendo Switch, the PlayStation 5 taking the bronze metal. The Xbox 360 takes second place, and finally, the PlayStation 3 wins at home, acting as the king of pollution among its competitors on consoles. The report also adds that the PlayStation consoles are globally the most polluting.

The study as a whole is worth reading if you want a fan of any more figures centered. It's not so strong or catchy, but hey, maybe you'll learn something on the way. It also comes with a small practical infographic if you want to compare statistics from each other.

For an additional layer of pleasure, the study also examined the games most responsible for the same type of pollution. The metrics here were quite similar, the sales figures contributing to a total of a game. Expect to see popular games here!

Their top five, at least at the most polluting: FIFA 2022, Call of Duty: War zone, Apex Legends, Fortnite and League of Legends.

This selection has an intuitive sense. These are all live service style games; Those who are suitable for shorter play sessions, but can take care for hundreds or thousands of hours. They all have basics of massive, reliable and recurrent players, and absolutely money because of that.
